MK Moshe Saada, who was granted a place In the Likud party list by Prime Minister Netanyahu, has submitted new legislation to bring the Police Investigations Department under the authority of the Justice Ministry, according to a new report in Israel Hayom.The language of the bill states that the PID will be granted authority not Inly to investigate police officers suspected of crime, but also to investigate Shabak operatives and those who work for the State Prosecution Service. The bill notes that, "The directorate of the department will be appointed by the Justice Minister," and that, "Only a person who is eligible to serve as a Supreme Court Justice will be considered for the position of director of the PID."To date, the PID has been an internal police department, leading to a situation in which the police are responsible for investigating their own which many criticize as consisting a conflict of interest.
