The United Nations General Assembly is likely to vote next week on a Palestinian draft resolution demanding Israel end "its unlawful presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory" within six months. The key aim of the draft resolution, written by the Palestinian Authority and seen by Reuters, is to welcome a July advisory opinion by the International Court of Justice that said Israel's 'occupation' of Palestinian territories and settlements is illegal and should be withdrawn. But while the advisory opinion by the United Nations' highest court - known as the World Court - said this should be done "as rapidly as possible," the draft General Assembly resolution puts a six-month timeline on it.The Arab Group, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Non-Aligned Movement on Monday asked for the 193-member UN General Assembly to vote on Sept. 18. The language of the eight-page draft resolution could change before it is put to a vote.

The French farming ministry on Tuesday said it detected five likely cases of foodborn botulism, a potentially fatal disease, in central France linked to contaminated pesto sauce, adding the sauce had been sold at some market fairs in central France.According to the World Health Origanisation, botulism is a rare but potentially fatal disease if not diagnosed rapidly and treated with antitoxin."Given the incubation period (from a few hours to a few days) and the serious nature of the disease, people who may have consumed these products are urged to be extremely vigilant," the ministry said.

Israel’s chief negotiator for hostages and missing persons, Gal Hirsch, proposed offering Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar safe passage out of Gaza in exchange for the 101 hostages still in captivity in an interview with Bloomberg on Tuesday. “I’m ready to provide safe passage to Sinwar, his family, whoever wants to join him. We want the hostages back. We want demilitarization, de-radicalization of course — a new system that will manage Gaza," he stated.According to the report, the proposal has been on the table for two days, yet it is unclear what the response has been. “In parallel, I must work on plans B, C, and D because I must bring the hostages back home,” Hirsch said. “The clock is ticking; the hostages do not have time,” Hirsch added.

Australia said on Tuesday it planned to introduce legislation this year to ban children from using social media platforms, citing the risks it could pose to physical and mental health.Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said his center-left government would begin an age verification trial over the next few months."I want to see kids off their devices and onto the footy fields and the swimming pools and the tennis courts. We want them to have real experiences with real people because we know that social media is causing social harm," Albanese told national broadcaster ABC News.He did not specify the age limits for the ban but said he was "looking at the range between 14 and 16."Albanese said he was concerned about the impacts of cyber bullying on the mental health of children and the easy exposure to content on social media that could harm them.
